So what makes a boat a pontoon? Pontoons are actually large floatation devices that are attached to the bottom of planes, bridges, and floating docks. A pontoon boat attaches these pontoons to the bottom of the craft to make it look as though a large raft has been attached to two large tubes. You’ll probably get two or three hulls to keep your boat afloat and modern designs are more streamlined and allow for more power and better handling. They can come with spacious, flat decks and lots of cushioned seating area or just the basics.
So why choose a pontoon boat? Families love pontoons because of their safety. For families with children that have a lot of energy, this can be a stress relief for both the parents and the children. You won’t have to constantly tell your child to sit down or stay away from the side when you know your boat will keep them safely out of the water. Pontoons are also perfect for throwing get-togethers on the water! You’ll also appreciate some of the savings you’ll get with a pontoon. The initial price is often cheaper. Once you have the boat, you may also find they’re cheaper to insure and don’t require as much maintenance, which cuts down on some of your long-term spending. And finally, these boats last longer than other boats. This is not only because of their naturally hardy engineering but because when parts of the boat start to wear out, they can easily be upgraded or replaced. This will cost you a bit of money, but not nearly on the same scale as buying an entirely new boat.
Most of the value that comes from a pontoon is what you can do with it! Despite what may look like a cumbersome size, pontoons are highly efficient and streamlined so they’re built to optimize a number of on-the-water activities. As we’ve mentioned, you can invite your friends over and have a relaxing evening on the water when the weather starts to get warm and sunny. But you can also hook up some of the most thrilling watersports equipment and tow some of your boaters around at top speeds. If fishing is more your sport, then use all that extra space for storage and head out to the water for a relaxing day looking for the best catch. There is virtually no water activity you can’t do with a pontoon, so try them all.
